For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and those who escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.

As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him.

But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon those who fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children;

For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and those who escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.

The LORD shall go forth like a mighty man, he shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: he shall cry, yea, roar; he shall prevail against his enemies.

And the sons of strangers shall build up your walls, and their kings shall minister to you: for in my anger I struck you, but in my favor have I had mercy on you.

Look down from heaven, and behold from the habitation of your holiness and of your glory: where is your zeal and your strength, the pleading of your sympathy and of your mercies toward me? are they restrained?

In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bore them, and carried them all the days of old.

Is Ephraim my dear son? is he a pleasant child? for since I spoke against him, I do earnestly remember him still: therefore my heart is troubled for him; I will surely have mercy upon him, says the LORD.

It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions never fail.

So the angel that communed with me said to me, Cry out, saying, Thus says the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.

Thus says the LORD of hosts; I was jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I was jealous for her with great fury.

And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations they provoked him to anger.

For the LORD shall judge his people, and be sorry for his servants, when he sees that their power is gone, and there is none shut up, or left.

Rejoice, O you nations, with his people: for he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will return vengeance to his adversaries, and will be merciful unto his land, and to his people.

Behold, we consider them happy who endure. You have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the purpose of the Lord; that the Lord is full of compassion, and of tender mercy.

And they put away the strange gods from among them, and served the LORD: and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.
