If they sin against you, (for there is no man that does not sin,) and you be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they take them away captives unto the land of the enemy, far or near;

O LORD God of Israel, you are righteous: for we remain yet delivered, as it is this day: behold, we are before you in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before you because of this.

How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?

Behold even the moon, and it does not shine, and the stars are not pure in his sight.

Then was kindled the anger of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his anger kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.

I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.

For Job has said, I am righteous: and God has taken away my judgment.

Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?

Then Job answered and said,

If you, LORD, were to mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?

And do not enter into judgment with your servant: for in your sight shall no man living be justified.

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
