And they said one to another, We are truly guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he pleaded with us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us.

My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

If I be wicked, woe to me; and if I be righteous, yet will I not lift up my head. I am full of confusion; therefore you see my affliction;

Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what will.

Though I speak, my grief is not assuaged: and though I hold back, what am I eased?

And another dies in the bitterness of his soul, and never eats with pleasure.

Even today is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning.

Be careful, do not regard iniquity: for this have you chosen rather than to bear affliction.

Do you imagine to reprove my words, and the speeches of one that is desperate, which are as wind?

If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort myself:

My heart was hot within me; while I was considering the fire burned: then I spoke with my tongue,

I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not restrained my lips, O LORD, you know.

What shall I say? he has both spoken to me, and himself has done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.

Behold, instead of peace I had great bitterness: but you have in love for my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for you have put all my sins behind your back.

And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many tears; not that you should be grieved, but that you might know the love which I have more abundantly for you.

And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept bitterly.
