I have sinned; what shall I do for you, O you preserver of men? why have you considered me as a target for you, so that I am a burden to myself?

For he breaks me with a tempest, and multiplies my wounds without cause.

Hear me speedily, O LORD: my spirit fails: do not hide your face from me, lest I be like those who go down into the pit.

Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and overthrew them.

Therefore shall you make them turn their back, when you shall make ready your arrows upon your strings against their face.

For your arrows stick firmly in me, and your hand presses hard upon me.

There is no soundness in my flesh because of your anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.

Your arrows are sharp in the heart of the king’s enemies; by which the people fall under you.

He has also prepared for him the instruments of death; he fashions his arrows against the persecutors.

The heart knows its own bitterness; and a stranger does not partake of its joy.

The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?

From the time that it goes forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be nothing but distress to understand the report of it.

He has bent his bow like an enemy: he stood with his right hand like an adversary, and slew all that were pleasant to the eye in the tabernacle of the daughter of Zion: he poured out his fury like fire.

Surely against me has he turned; he turns his hand against me all the day.

And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made known to God; and I trust also are made known in your consciences.

I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh; and that with the blood of the slain and of the captives, in the beginning of vengeance upon the enemy.

And she said to them, Do not call me Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me.
