But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

Because of want and famine they were solitary; fleeing in former times into the wilderness desolate and waste.

They were driven forth from among men, who cried out after them as after a thief;

Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was a herdsman, and a gatherer of sycamore fruit:

And he would gladly have filled his belly with the husks that the swine ate: and no one gave anything to him.
