Because it did not shut up the doors of my mother’s womb, nor hid sorrow from my eyes.

For the LORD had closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham’s wife.

And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.

My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

Even today is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning.

Why did I not die from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly?

Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day:

Therefore remove sorrow from your heart, and put away evil from your flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.

Because he did not kill me from the womb; or that my mother might have been my grave, and her womb have been always large with me.

But to Hannah he gave an extra portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb.
