And he said, What have you done? the voice of your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.

The poor make oil within their walls, and tread their winepresses, and suffer thirst.

There are those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof.

If the scourge should slay suddenly, he will laugh at the ordeal of the innocent.

The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covers the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?

Why does the wicked despise God? he has said in his heart, You will not require it.

For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.

For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, says the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffs at him.

These things have you done, and I kept silence; you thought that I was altogether such a one as yourself: but I will reprove you, and set them in order before your eyes.

For they persecute him whom you have stricken; and they talk to the grief of those whom you have wounded.

For that is his only covering, it is his clothing for his skin: what shall he sleep in? and it shall come to pass, when he cries out to me, that I will hear; for I am gracious.

So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of those that were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.

Now therefore, what have I here, says the LORD, that my people are taken away for nothing? those who rule over them make them to howl, says the LORD; and my name continually every day is blasphemed.

Righteous are you, O LORD, when I plead with you: yet let me talk with you of your judgments: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? why are all those happy who deal very treacherously?

You have planted them, yea, they have taken root: they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: you are near in their mouth, and far from their thoughts.

You have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet you say, How have we wearied him? When you say, Every one that does evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and he delights in them; or, Where is the God of judgment?

And now we call the proud happy; yea, those who work wickedness are established; yea, those who tempt God are even delivered.

And consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given to him has written to you;

And they put away the strange gods from among them, and served the LORD: and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.
