But he said to her, You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.
And to Adam he said, Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it: cursed is the ground for your sake; in sorrow shall you eat of it all the days of your life;
And I, where shall I make my shame go? and as for you, you shall be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray you, speak to the king; for he will not withhold me from you.
And David said, What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah, that you should this day be adversaries to me? shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? for do I not know that I am this day king over Israel?
For all of my father’s house were but dead men before my lord the king: yet did you set your servant among those who did eat at your own table. What right therefore have I yet to cry any more unto the king?
And David’s heart struck him after he had numbered the people. And David said to the LORD, I have sinned greatly in what I have done: and now, I plead with you, O LORD, take away the iniquity of your servant; for I have done very foolishly.
For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in behalf of those whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein you have done foolishly: therefore from this time on you shall have wars.
Have you not made a hedge around him, and around his house, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions are increased in the land.
In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider: God also has appointed the one along with the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him.
But he turned, and said to Peter, Get behind me, Satan: you are an offense to me: for you are not concerned with the things that are of God, but those that are of men.
Blessed is the man who endures temptation: for when he has been tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love him.
