There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and turned away from evil.

And to man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

Is not this your fear, your confidence, your hope, and the uprightness of your ways?

Though I were perfect, yet would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.

Moreover you shall provide out of all the people able men, those who fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:

A wise man fears, and departs from evil: but the fool rages, and is confident.

He that walks in his uprightness fears the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despises him.

The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keeps his way preserves his soul.

By mercy and truth iniquity is cleansed: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

The just man walks in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.

Be not wise in your own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the wayward mouth, do I hate.

And all the mixed people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod,

Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, who dwell in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through to you: you shall be drunken, and shall make yourself naked.

Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they would deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, says the Lord GOD.

Though Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I live, says the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.

And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

You shall be perfect with the LORD your God.

Behold, we consider them happy who endure. You have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the purpose of the Lord; that the Lord is full of compassion, and of tender mercy.

Let him turn from evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and pursue it.
