For the mountains will I take up a weeping and wailing, and for the habitations of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up, so that none can pass through them; neither can men hear the voice of the cattle; both the birds of the heavens and the beast have fled; they are gone.

For the land is full of adulterers; for because of swearing the land mourns; the pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up, and their course is evil, and their power is not used rightly.

For out of the north there comes up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they shall go, they shall depart, both man and beast.

Cut off your hair, O Jerusalem, and throw it away, and take up a lamentation on high places; for the LORD has rejected and forsaken the generation of his anger.

When I would comfort myself against sorrow, my heart is faint in me.

For these things I weep; my eye, my eye runs down with water, because the comforter that should relieve my soul is far from me: my children are desolate, because the enemy prevailed.

My eyes fail with tears, my bowels are troubled, my liver is poured upon the earth, for the destruction of the daughter of my people; because the children and the sucklings swoon in the streets of the city.

Because of the mountain of Zion, which is desolate, the foxes walk upon it.

If I cause hurtful beasts to pass through the land, and they spoil it, so that it be desolate, that no man may pass through because of the beasts:

Now, you son of man, take up a lamentation for Tyre;

No foot of man shall pass through it, nor foot of beast shall pass through it, neither shall it be inhabited forty years.

For I will lay the land quite desolate, and the pomp of her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, so that none shall pass through.

In all your dwelling places the cities shall be laid waste, and the high places shall be desolate; that your altars may be laid waste and made desolate, and your idols may be broken and cease, and your images may be cut down, and your works may be abolished.

Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one who dwells therein shall grow feeble, with the beasts of the field, and with the birds of heaven; yea, the fish of the sea also shall be taken away.

Clothe yourselves, and lament, you priests: howl, you ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, you ministers of my God: for the food offering and the drink offering is withheld from the house of your God.

O LORD, to you will I cry: for the fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame has burned all the trees of the field.

Hear this word which I take up against you, even a lamentation, O house of Israel.

Therefore the LORD, the God of hosts, the Lord, says thus; Wailing shall be in all streets; and they shall say in all the highways, Alas! alas! and they shall call the farmer to mourning, and those that are skilful at lamentation to wailing.

In that day shall one take up a parable against you, and lament with a sorrowful lamentation, and say, We are completely laid waste: he has changed the portion of my people: how he has removed it from me! turning away he has divided our fields.

Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps of ruins, and the mountain of the house like the high places of the forest.
