Why do we sit still? assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the fortified cities, and let us be silent there: for the LORD our God has put us to silence, and given us bitter water to drink, because we have sinned against the LORD.

But it came to pass, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians: so we dwell at Jerusalem.

But have walked according to the imagination of their own heart, and after Baalim, which their fathers taught them:

Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood, and give them bitter water to drink.

Remembering my affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the bitterness.

Then Moses said to Aaron, This is what the LORD spoke, saying, I will be sanctified in those who come near me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace.

And a man’s uncle shall take up his body, and he who burns him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say to him that is by the sides of the house, Is there yet any with you? and he shall say, No. Then shall he say, Hold your tongue: for we may not make mention of the name of the LORD.

But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.

Be silent, all flesh, before the LORD: for he has raised himself up out of his holy habitation.

They gave him vinegar to drink mixed with gall: and when he had tasted of it he would not drink.

Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turns away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that bears gall and wormwood;

For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, and of the fields of Gomorrah: their grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters are bitter:
