Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great trespass until this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to plundering, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.
She that has borne seven grows feeble: she has given up the ghost; her sun is gone down while it was yet day: she has been ashamed and perplexed: and the remainder of them will I deliver to the sword before their enemies, says the LORD.
Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backsliding shall reprove you: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that you have forsaken the LORD your God, and that my fear is not in you, says the Lord GOD of hosts.
But the LORD is with me as a mighty one to be feared: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper: their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.
The wind shall eat up all your shepherds, and your lovers shall go into captivity: surely then shall you be ashamed and astonished for all your wickedness.
We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covers us: for we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even until this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.
Because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, and to serve other gods, whom they knew not, neither they, you, nor your fathers.
Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of those who dwell in a far country: Is not the LORD in Zion? is not her king in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their sculptured images, and with strange vanities?
For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How we are laid waste! we are greatly astonished, because we have forsaken the land, because our dwellings have cast us out.
