​O God, the heathen have come into your inheritance; your holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem in heaps of ruins.

It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah king of Judah, until the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.

And the Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come and set fire to this city, and burn it with the houses, upon whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal, and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger.

Now Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon gave instruction concerning Jeremiah to Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, saying,

Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took away captive into Babylon the remnant of the people that remained in the city, and those that fell away, that deserted to him, with the rest of the people that remained.

And all the army of the Chaldeans that were with the captain of the guard, broke down all the walls of Jerusalem round about.

In the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar he took away captive from Jerusalem eight hundred thirty two persons:

In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Jerusalem, and besieged it.

Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king’s guard, who had gone out to slay the wise men of Babylon:

Thus says the LORD of hosts; The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace.
