And this house, which is high, shall be an astonishment to every one that passes by it; so that he shall say, Why has the LORD done thus unto this land, and unto this house?

And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellence, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.

That you shall take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How the oppressor has ceased! the golden city ceased!

And all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth: and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.

How the city of praise is not left alone, the city of my joy!

How the hammer of the whole earth is cut in pieces and broken! how Babylon has become a desolation among the nations!

At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations.

And Babylon shall become heaps of ruins, a dwelling place for dragons, an astonishment, and a hissing, without an inhabitant.

All the inhabitants of the isles shall be astonished at you, and their kings shall be greatly afraid, they shall be troubled in their countenance.

And wherever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the birds of the heaven has he given into your hand, and has made you ruler over them all. You are this head of gold.

It is you, O king, who have grown and become strong: for your greatness is grown, and reaches to heaven, and your dominion to the end of the earth.

The king spoke, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honor of my majesty?

And you shall become an astonishment, a proverb, and a disgrace, among all nations to which the LORD shall lead you.
