He who mocks the poor reproaches his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.

I was angry with my people, I have polluted my inheritance, and given them into your hand: you showed them no mercy; upon the elderly have you very heavily laid your yoke.

Therefore now hear this, you who are given to pleasures, who dwell without care, who say in your heart, I am, and none other besides me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:

Thus says the LORD against all my evil neighbors, who touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit; Behold, I will pluck them out of their land, and pluck out the house of Judah from among them.

Egypt is like a very beautiful heifer, but destruction comes; it comes out of the north.

Also her hired men are in the midst of her like fatted bullocks; for they also are turned back, and have fled away together: they did not stand, because the day of their calamity had come upon them, and the time of their visitation.

They have become fat, they glisten: yea, they exceed the deeds of the wicked: they do not judge the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.

They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbor’s wife.

Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria has devoured him; and last this Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has broken his bones.

Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter: woe to them! for their day has come, the time of their visitation.

They have heard that I sigh: there is none to comfort me: all my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that you have done it: you will bring the day that you have proclaimed, and they shall be like me.

As you rejoiced at the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so will I do to you: you shall be desolate, O mount Seir, and all Idumea, even all of it: and they shall know that I am the LORD.

Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the rest of the heathen, and against all Idumea, who have allotted my land into their possession with the joy of all their heart, with spiteful minds, to cast it out for a prey.

And Ephraim is like a heifer that is taught, and loves to tread out the grain; but I passed over upon her fair neck: I will make Ephraim to ride; Judah shall plow, and Jacob shall break up his ground.

Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, who are in the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.

But you should not have looked on the day of your brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither should you have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither should you have spoken proudly in the day of distress.

They take up all of them with the hook, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their dragnet: therefore they rejoice and are glad.

And this shall be the plague with which the LORD will strike all the people who have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.

But Jeshurun grew fat, and kicked: you have become fat, you have grown thick, you are covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.
