Therefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall plunder them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goes out from there shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.

Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much according to all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of the LORD which he had hallowed in Jerusalem.

And Ezra the priest stood up, and said to them, You have transgressed, and have taken foreign wives, to increase the trespass of Israel.

And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to you, my God: for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass has grown up unto the heavens.

For it increases. You hunt me like a fierce lion: and again you show yourself to be wondrous upon me.

You make darkness, and it is night: in which all the beasts of the forest creep forth.

The boar out of the wood lays it waste, and the wild beast of the field devours it.

Your princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loves gifts, and follows after rewards: they do not judge the fatherless, neither does the cause of the widow come to them.

For our transgressions are multiplied before you, and our sins testify against us: for our transgressions are with us; and as for our iniquities, we know them;

O LORD, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou it for your name’s sake: for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against you.

The young lions roared upon him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant.

Have you not brought this on yourself, in that you have forsaken the LORD your God, when he led you in the way?

Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backsliding shall reprove you: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that you have forsaken the LORD your God, and that my fear is not in you, says the Lord GOD of hosts.

O generation, see the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness to Israel? a land of darkness? why do my people say, We are lords; we will come no more unto you?

He has forsaken his shelter, like the lion: for their land is desolate because of the fierceness of the oppressor, and because of his fierce anger.

All your lovers have forgotten you; they do not seek you; for I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of your iniquity; because your sins were increased.

Why do you cry for your affliction? your sorrow is incurable for the multitude of your iniquity: because your sins were increased, I have done these things to you.

The fierce anger of the LORD shall not return until he has done it, and until he has performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days you shall consider it.

The lion has come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he has gone forth from his place to make your land desolate; and your cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.

Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of the Jordan against the habitation of the strong: but I will suddenly make him run away from her: and who is a chosen man that I may appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will choose for me the time? and who is that shepherd that will stand before me?

Why then has this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold firmly to deceit, they refuse to return.

Yea, the stork in the heaven knows her appointed times; and the turtledove and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people do not know the judgment of the LORD.

Her adversaries are the head, her enemies prosper; for the LORD has afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions: her children have gone into captivity before the enemy.

You have built your high place at the head of every way, and have made your beauty to be abhorred, and have opened your feet to every one that passed by, and multiplied your whoredoms.

Her princes in the midst of her are like wolves devouring the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain.

Yet she multiplied her whoredoms, in calling to remembrance the days of her youth, in which she had played the harlot in the land of Egypt.

The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made to stand upon its feet like a man, and a man’s heart was given to it.

After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a bird; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it.

For I will be to Ephraim like a lion, and like a young lion to the house of Judah: I, even I, will tear and go away; I will take away, and none shall rescue him.

Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are fiercer than the evening wolves: and their horsemen shall spread themselves out, and their horsemen shall come from afar; they shall fly like the eagle that hastens to eat.

Her princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they do not leave the bones till the morrow.

And, behold, you are risen up in your fathers’ place, a generation of sinful men, to increase yet the fierce anger of the LORD toward Israel.

And the beast which I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his throne, and great authority.
