There shall be lamentation generally upon all the housetops of Moab, and in the streets thereof: for I have broken Moab like a vessel that no one desires, says the LORD.
In their streets they shall clothe themselves with sackcloth: on the tops of their houses, and in their streets, every one shall howl, weeping abundantly.
And he shall break it like the breaking of the potters’ vessel that is broken in pieces; he shall not spare: so that there shall not be found in the bursting of it a shard to take fire from the hearth, or to take water with out of the pit.
And shall say to them, Thus says the LORD of hosts; Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaks a potter’s vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they shall bury them in Tophet, till there be no place to bury.
Is this man Coniah a despised broken idol? is he a vessel in which is no pleasure? why are they cast out, he and his children, and are cast into a land which they do not know?
Howl, you shepherds, and cry; and roll yourselves in the ashes, you chief of the flock: for the days of your slaughter and of your scattering are accomplished; and you shall fall like a pleasant vessel.
