Do you see how Ahab humbles himself before me? because he humbles himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son’s days will I bring the evil upon his house.

The LORD is near to those who are of a broken heart; and saves such as be of a contrite spirit.

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

They did not keep the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;

And Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him, Thus says the LORD God of the Hebrews, How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me.

As yet do you exalt yourself against my people, that you will not let them go?

But as for you and your servants, I know that you will not yet fear the LORD God.

A wise man fears, and departs from evil: but the fool rages, and is confident.

By mercy and truth iniquity is cleansed: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

Happy is the man that fears always: but he that hardens his heart shall fall into mischief.

The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the wayward mouth, do I hate.

Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the LORD, he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient to his law.

For thus says the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also who is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

For all those things has my hand made, and all those things have been, says the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembles at my word.

Who would not fear you, O King of nations? for to you it belongs: seeing that among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like you.

And you shall say to them, Thus says the LORD; If you will not listen to me, to walk in my law, which I have set before you,

And they came in, and possessed it; but they did not obey your voice, or walk in your law; they have done nothing of all that you commanded them to do: therefore you have caused all this evil to come upon them:

Yet they were not afraid, nor tore their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.

Because you have burned incense, and because you have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil has happened to you, as at this day.

O LORD, are not your eyes upon the truth? you have struck them, but they have not grieved; you have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.

Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? no, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among those who fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be thrown down, says the LORD.

But to you who fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and you shall go out, and grow up like calves of the stall.

Now when the centurion, and those who were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Do you not fear God, seeing you are in the same condemnation?

Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Be not high minded, but fear:

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

Who shall not fear you, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you only are holy: for all nations shall come and worship before you; for your judgments are made known.
