Then Jacob said to his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:

And the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the abomination of the children of Ammon, did the king defile.

Moreover the workers with familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD.

And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the LORD, that was before the porch of the LORD.

Neither will I any more remove the foot of Israel from out of the land which I have appointed for your fathers; so that they will be careful to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses.

And Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the lands that belonged to the children of Israel, and made all that were present in Israel to serve, even to serve the LORD their God. And all his days they did not depart from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.

Turn to him from whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted.

Therefore thus says the LORD, If you return, then will I bring you back, and you shall stand before me: and if you take away the precious from the vile, you shall be as my mouth: let them return to you; but do not return to them.

And I will cause them to be removed into all kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh the son of Hezekiah king of Judah, for that which he did in Jerusalem.

Now therefore go, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus says the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a purpose against you: return now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.

And I will deliver them to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth for their hurt, to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places to which I shall drive them.

They said, Turn back now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD has given unto you and to your fathers for ever and ever:

They say, If a man puts away his wife, and she goes from him and becomes another man’s, shall he return to her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but you have played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, says the LORD.

Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, you backsliding Israel, says the LORD; and I will not cause my anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, says the LORD, and I will not have anger for ever.

Turn, O backsliding children, says the LORD; for I am married to you: and I will take you, one from a city, and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

Return, you backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come unto you; for you are the LORD our God.

I have sent also to you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return now every man from his evil way, and correct your doings, and do not go after other gods to serve them, and you shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but you have not turned your ear, nor listened to me.

It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do to them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, you men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: so that my fury does not come forth like fire, and burn so that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Mend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.

For if you thoroughly mend your ways and your doings; if you thoroughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbor;

Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.

And they shall come to there, and they shall take away all the detestable things thereof and all the abominations thereof away from there.

Has given out at interest, and has taken unjust gain: shall he then live? he shall not live: he has done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.

Now let them put away their whoredom, and the carcasses of their kings, far from me, and I will dwell in the midst of them for ever.

O Israel, return to the LORD your God; for you have fallen by your iniquity.

Plead with your mother, plead: for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her adulteries from between her breasts;

They return, but not to the most High: they are like a deceitful bow: their princes shall fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue: this shall be their derision in the land of Egypt.

Therefore also now, says the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:

Be not like your fathers, to whom the former prophets have cried out, saying, Thus says the LORD of hosts; Turn now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor listen to me, says the LORD.

Cursed be the man that makes any sculptured or molten image, an abomination unto the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and puts it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.

When you are in tribulation, and all these things have come upon you, even in the latter days, if you turn to the LORD your God, and shall be obedient to his voice;

Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve the LORD.

And they put away the strange gods from among them, and served the LORD: and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.

And Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, If you do return to the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.
