A wild donkey used to the wilderness, that sniffs up the wind at her pleasure; in her mating season who can turn her away? all those who seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.

For vain man thinks himself wise, though man be born like a wild donkey’s colt.

Can you number the months that they fulfill? or do you know the time when they bring forth?

And the wild donkeys stood in the high places, they sniffed up the wind like dragons; their eyes did fail, because there was no grass.

Saying to a tree trunk, You are my father; and to a stone, You have brought me forth: for they have turned their back to me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.

They give gifts to all whores: but you give your gifts to all your lovers, and hire them, that they may come to you on every side for your whoredom.

I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offense, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early.

For they have gone up to Assyria, a wild donkey alone by himself: Ephraim has hired lovers.
