Why do you spend money for that which is not bread? and your labor for that which does not satisfy? listen diligently to me, and eat that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

I the LORD search the heart, I examine the thoughts, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger.

And they will deceive every one his neighbor, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity.

For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it has no stalk: the bud shall yield no meal: if perhaps it yields, the strangers shall swallow it up.

I also will do this to you; I will even appoint over you terror, a wasting disease, and the burning fever, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.

You shall sow, but you shall not reap; you shall tread the olives, but you shall not anoint yourselves with oil; and sweet wine, but shall not drink wine.

Behold, is it not from the LORD of hosts that the people shall labor in the consuming fire, and the people shall weary themselves for utter vanity?

You have sown much, and bring in little; you eat, but you do not have enough; you drink, but you are not filled with drink; you clothe yourselves, but there is none warm; and he who earns wages earns wages to put it into a bag with holes.

You looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew upon it. Why? says the LORD of hosts. Because of my house that is in ruins, and you run every man to his own house.

What fruit did you have then in those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

You shall carry much seed out into the field, and shall gather but little in; for the locust shall consume it.
