And I contended with them, and cursed them, and struck certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, saying, You shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor take their daughters for your sons, or for yourselves.

They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have struck me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.

They abhor me, they flee far from me, and do not spare to spit in my face.

The plowers plowed upon my back: they made long their furrows.

Because for your sake I have borne reproach; shame has covered my face.

I have become a stranger to my brethren, and an alien to my mother’s children.

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

He gives his cheek to him that strikes him: he is filled full with reproach.

Now gather yourself in troops, O daughter of troops: he has laid siege against us: they shall strike the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.

And the LORD said to Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, would she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after that let her be received in again.

Then they spat in his face, and punched him; and others struck him with the palms of their hands,

Then he released Barabbas to them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

And they spat upon him, and took the reed, and struck him on the head.

But I say to you, Do not resist evil: but whoever shall strike you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.

And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to punch him, and to say to him, Prophesy: and the servants struck him with the palms of their hands.

And they struck him on the head with a reed, and spat upon him, and bowing their knees worshiped him.

And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers who stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Do you answer the high priest so?

Looking to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
