And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hands.

Why did you flee away secretly, and steal away from me; and did not tell me, that I might have sent you away with gladness, and with songs, with tabret, and with harp?

I am this day eighty years old: and can I discern between good and evil? can your servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? why then should your servant be yet a burden to my lord the king?

Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:

Because they do not regard the works of the LORD, or the working of his hands, he shall destroy them, and not build them up.

And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we shall die.

The gladness of tabrets ceases, the sound of those who rejoice ends, the joy of the harp ceases.

Woe to Ariel, to Ariel, the city where David dwelt! add year to year; let them kill sacrifices.

That say, Let him act quickly, and hasten his work, that we may see it: and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw near and come, that we may know it!

Come, they say, I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and tomorrow shall be like this day, and much more abundant.

And I will cause the noise of your songs to cease; and the sound of your harps shall no more be heard.

But have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you, and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine in them; and you have praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand your breath is, and whose are all your ways, have you not glorified:

There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen, and lived luxuriously every day:

And even lifeless things giving sounds, whether pipe or harp, unless they give distinct sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?

These are spots in your love feasts when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried around by winds; trees whose fruit withers, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;

Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great are the things he has done for you.
