Woe to those who rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflames them!

I am this day eighty years old: and can I discern between good and evil? can your servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? why then should your servant be yet a burden to my lord the king?

Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

At the last it bites like a serpent, and stings like an adder.

And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we shall die.

Woe to those who are mighty to drink wine, and men with strength to mix strong drink:

Come, they say, I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and tomorrow shall be like this day, and much more abundant.

Woe to him that gives his neighbor drink, that puts your bottle to him, and makes him drunken also, that you may look on their nakedness!

Yea also, because he transgresses by wine, he is a proud man, neither stays at home, who enlarges his desire like hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathers to himself all nations, and heaps up for himself all people:

And be careful of yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be weighed down with gluttony, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in impurity and licentiousness, not in disputing and envying.

Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: of which I tell you in advance, as I have also told you in time past, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

And Abigail came to Nabal; and, behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal’s heart was merry within him, for he was very drunken: therefore she told him nothing, whether small or great, until the morning light.
