The blacksmith with the tongs both works in the coals, and fashions it with hammers, and works it with the strength of his arms: yea, he is hungry, and his strength fails: he drinks no water, and is faint.

And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with an engraving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be your gods, O Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made themselves a molten calf, and have worshiped it, and have sacrificed to it, and said, These be your gods, O Israel, which have brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

The workman melts a sculptured image, and the goldsmith spreads it over with gold, and casts silver chains.

He that is so impoverished that he has no offering chooses a tree that will not rot; he seeks for himself a skilful workman to prepare a sculptured image that shall not be moved.

Behold, is it not from the LORD of hosts that the people shall labor in the consuming fire, and the people shall weary themselves for utter vanity?

What does the sculptured image profit, that its maker has carved it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusts in it, to make dumb idols?

And the LORD showed me four craftsmen.

And there you shall serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.
