What is my strength, that I should hope? and what is my end, that I should prolong my life?

O remember that my life is wind: my eye shall no more see good.

I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: your years are throughout all generations.

Of old have you laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of your hands.

Their soul abhors all manner of food; and they draw near to the gates of death.

In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said to him, Thus says the LORD, Set your house in order: for you shall die, and not live.

The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered from his sickness:

I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was around me for ever: yet have you brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead:
