Then they cried out with a loud voice in the Jews’ speech to the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to frighten them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.
Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Joah to Rab-shakeh, Speak, I pray you, to your servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and do not speak to us in the Jews’ language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.
But Rab-shakeh said, Has my master sent me to your master and to you to speak these words? Has he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own urine with you?
It may be that the LORD your God will hear the words of Rab-shakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to reproach the living God, and will reprove the words which the LORD your God has heard: therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.
Now therefore, behold, the Lord brings up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks:
Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all of whose works are truth, and his ways justice: and those who walk in pride he is able to bring low.
