Woe to the land shadowed with wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia:

Lo, you trust in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; on which if a man leans, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust in him.

How then will you turn away the face of one captain from the least of my master’s servants, and put your trust in Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

And when they shall say to you, Seek after those who have familiar spirits, and wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek after their God? for the living should they go to the dead?

And now what have you to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what have you to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?

Inquire, I pray you, of the LORD for us; for Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon makes war against us; perhaps the LORD will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may go away from us.

Then Pharaoh’s army came forth out of Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem.

Saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger for bread; and there will we dwell:

And said to Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we plead with you, our supplication be accepted before you, and pray for us unto the LORD your God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes do behold us:)

For you deceived in your hearts, when you sent me to the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us to the LORD our God; and according to all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare to us, and we will do it.

So they came into the land of Egypt: for they did not obey the voice of the LORD: thus came they even to Tahpanhes.

The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the LORD, was taken in their pits, of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among the heathen.

Woe to them! for they have fled from me: destruction to them! because they have transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me.

Yea, though they have hired among the nations, now will I gather them, and they shall sorrow a little for the burden of the king of princes.

For they have gone up to Assyria, a wild donkey alone by himself: Ephraim has hired lovers.

And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him accrding to the judgment of Urim before the LORD: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.

And the LORD shall bring you into Egypt again with ships, by the way of which I spoke to you, that you should see it no more again: and there you shall be sold to your enemies as male and female slaves, and no man shall buy you.

And the men took of their food, and asked not counsel at the mouth of the LORD.

And the bramble said to the trees, If in truth you anoint me king over you, then come and put your trust in my shadow: and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.
