So David dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from Millo and inward.

Therefore the Lord said, Seeing that this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honor me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

Stand, and wonder; cry out, and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink.

And he shall pass over to his stronghold in fear, and his princes shall be afraid of the banner, says the LORD, whose fire is in Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.

And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hands.

He that kills an ox is as if he slew a man; he that sacrifices a lamb, as if he cut off a dog’s neck; he that offers an offering, as if he offered swine’s blood; he that burns incense, as if he blessed an idol. Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations.

Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Put your burnt offerings with your sacrifices, and eat flesh.

They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek the LORD; but they shall not find him; he has withdrawn himself from them.

They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of my offerings, and eat it; but the LORD does not accept them; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.

They shall not offer wine offerings to the LORD, neither shall they be pleasing to him: their sacrifices shall be to them like the bread of mourners; all who eat of it shall be polluted: for their bread for their soul shall not come into the house of the LORD.

These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which you shall proclaim in their seasons.

For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make those who draw near perfect.
