In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and took Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fortified cities of Judah, and took them.

Therefore thus says the LORD God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing such evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whoever hears of it, both his ears shall tingle.

And the LORD sent against him bands of the Chaldees, and bands of the Syrians, and bands of the Moabites, and bands of the children of Ammon, and sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke by his servants the prophets.

Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet.

For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: if one knows them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death.

Behold, the hope of taking him is in vain: shall not one be brought low even at the sight of him?

For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison of which my spirit drinks up: the terrors of God set themselves in formation against me.

My heart is greatly pained within me: and the terrors of death have fallen upon me.

I have been afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer your terrors I am confused.

Behold, their valiant ones shall cry outside: the ambassadors of peace shall weep bitterly.

Then came Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of Rab-shakeh.

And they said to him, Thus says Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of blasphemy: for the children have come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.

The Lord GOD has given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary: he wakens me morning by morning, he wakens my ear to hear as the learned.

And say, Hear the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem; Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, which whoever hears, his ears shall tingle.

Declare ye in Judah, and make it known in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the trumpet in the land: cry, gather together, and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the fortified cities.

And it shall come to pass in that day, says the LORD, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.

We have heard the fame thereof: our hands grow feeble: anguish has taken hold of us, and pain, as of a woman in birth labor.

You have summoned as in a solemn day my terrors round about, so that in the day of the LORD’S anger none escaped nor remained: those that I have swaddled and brought up has my enemy consumed.

Thus far is the end of the matter. As for me Daniel, my thoughts much troubled me, and my appearance changed in me: but I kept the matter in my heart.

And I Daniel fainted, and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up, and did the king’s business; and I was astonished at the vision, but did not understand it.

When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he comes up to the people, he will invade them with his troops.

And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both of the ears of every one that hears it shall tingle.
