There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the gladness of the land is gone.

That our oxen may be strong to labor; that there be no breaking in, nor going out; that there be no complaining in our streets.

Give strong drink to him that is ready to perish, and wine to those that be of heavy hearts.

And gladness is taken away, and joy out of the fruitful field; and in the vineyards there shall be no singing, neither shall there be shouting: the treaders shall tread out no wine in their presses; I have made their vintage shouting to cease.

Many days and years shall you be troubled, you careless women: for the vintage shall fail, the gathering shall not come.

Upon the land of my people shall come up thorns and briers; yea, upon all the houses of joy in the joyful city:

And they shall look to the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.

Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts is the land darkened, and the people shall be as fuel for the fire: no man shall spare his brother.

Judah mourns, and the gates thereof droop; the people are black down to the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem has gone up.

The nations have heard of your shame, and your cry has filled the land: for the mighty man has stumbled against the mighty, and they are fallen both together.

And joy and gladness is taken from the fruitful field, and from the land of Moab; and I have caused wine to fail from the winepresses: none shall tread with shouting; their shouting shall be no shouting.

And they have not cried to me with their heart, when they howled upon their beds: they assemble themselves for grain and wine, and they rebel against me.

The vine is dried up, and the fig tree droops; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.

Dreadful is the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

But Abraham said, Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and you are tormented.
