The workman melts a sculptured image, and the goldsmith spreads it over with gold, and casts silver chains.

Bel bows down, Nebo stoops, their idols were upon the beasts, and upon the cattle: the things you carried were heavily loaded; they are a burden to the weary beast.

They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance, and hire a goldsmith; and he makes it a god: they fall down, yea, they worship.

Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord GOD; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.

Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.

They shall throw their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bodies: because these things are the stumbling block of their iniquity.

Ephraim shall say, What have I to do any more with idols? I have heard him, and observed him: I am like a green fir tree. From me is your fruit found.

And the stork, the heron after its kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.

The LORD will be terrible to them: for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship him, every one from his place, even all the lands of the heathen beyond the sea.

Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.
