Then did Solomon build a high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon.

And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.

Have the gods of the nations delivered those whom my fathers have destroyed; as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Thelasar?

Then he took his eldest son that should have reigned in his place, and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. And there was great indignation against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.

Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

He has gone up to Bajith, and to Dibon, the high places, to weep: Moab shall howl over Nebo, and over Medeba: on all their heads shall be baldness, and every beard cut off.

This is the word that the LORD has spoken concerning Moab since that time.

LORD, in trouble have they sought you; they poured out a prayer when your rebuke was upon them.

And it came to pass, as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adram-melech and Sharezer his sons struck him down with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: and Esar-haddon his son reigned in his place.

You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly predictors, stand up, and save you from these things that shall come upon you.

They are upright like the palm tree, but do not speak: they must be carried, because they cannot walk. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good.

And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel their confidence.

Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab, says the LORD, he who offers in the high places, and he who burns incense to his gods.

Woe be unto you, O Moab! the people of Chemosh perish: for your sons are taken captives, and your daughters captives.

For because you have trusted in your works and in your treasures, you shall also be taken: and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity with his priests and his princes together.

For there is a fire gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it has consumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of the Arnon.

And Balaam went with Balak, and they came unto Kirjath-huzoth.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal, that from there he might see the farthest part of the people.

And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.

And Balak brought Balaam to the top of Peor, that looks toward Jeshimon.

I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not near: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall strike the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.
