Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; perhaps there may be a lengthening of your tranquility.

The king spoke, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honor of my majesty?

Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, says the LORD, whose name is The God of hosts.

You who rejoice in nothingness, who say, Have we not taken to ourselves dominion by our own strength?

Then shall his mind change, and he shall pass over, and offend, giving credit to his god for this his power.

Therefore they sacrifice to their net, and burn incense to their dragnet; because by them their portion is fat, and their food plentiful.

Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him who increases that which is not his! how long? and to him who loads himself with thick clay!

And you say in your heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth.

And the LORD said to Gideon, The people that are with you are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel lift themselves up against me, saying, My own hand has saved me.
