For, lo, they are gone because of destruction: Egypt shall gather them up, Memphis shall bury them: the pleasant places for their silver, nettles shall possess them: thorns shall be in their tabernacles.

Upon the land of my people shall come up thorns and briers; yea, upon all the houses of joy in the joyful city:

And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be a habitation of dragons, and a court for owls.

And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor dug; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that in every place shall be, where there were a thousand vines, and valued at a thousand silver coins, it shall even be for briers and thorns.

Also the children of Noph and Tahapanes have broken the crown of your head.

Now therefore know certainly that you shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place to which you desire to go and to sojourn.

The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews which dwell in the land of Egypt, which dwell at Migdol, and at Tahpanhes, and at Noph, and in the country of Pathros, saying,

And I will take the remnant of Judah that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they shall all be consumed, and fall in the land of Egypt; they shall even be consumed by the sword and by the famine: they shall die, from the least even to the greatest, by the sword and by the famine: and they shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach.

For I will punish those who dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence:

Declare in Egypt, and announce in Migdol, and announce in Noph and in Tahpanhes: say, Stand fast, and prepare; for the sword shall devour round about you.

O thou daughter dwelling in Egypt, prepare your baggage to go into captivity: for Noph shall be a ruin and desolate without an inhabitant.

Thus says the Lord GOD; I will also destroy the idols, and I will cause their images to cease out of Noph; and there shall be no more a prince of the land of Egypt: and I will put a fear in the land of Egypt.

And I will set fire in Egypt: Sin shall have great pain, and No shall be torn apart, and Noph shall have distresses daily.

The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.

They shall tremble like a bird out of Egypt, and like a dove out of the land of Assyria: and I will place them in their houses, says the LORD.

Therefore, behold, I will hedge up your way with thorns, and make a wall, that she shall not find her paths.

Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart: they call to Egypt, they go to Assyria.

Woe to them! for they have fled from me: destruction to them! because they have transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me.

They return, but not to the most High: they are like a deceitful bow: their princes shall fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue: this shall be their derision in the land of Egypt.

They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of my offerings, and eat it; but the LORD does not accept them; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.

They shall not dwell in the LORD’S land; but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and they shall eat unclean things in Assyria.

And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.

Howl, you inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the merchant people are cut down; all those who carry silver are cut off.

When the men of Israel saw that they were in difficulty, (for the people were distressed,) then the people hid themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in high places, and in pits.
