And the LORD was gracious to them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.

(And the LORD gave Israel a savior, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as beforehand.

Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects: therefore do not despise the discipline of the Almighty:

Who imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war.

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

How long will you imagine mischief against a man? you shall be slain all of you: as a tilting wall shall you be, and as a tottering fence.

Blessed is the man whom you discipline, O LORD, and teach him out of your law;

My son, do not despise the discipline of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

O Israel, you have destroyed yourself; but in me is your help.

What do you imagine against the LORD? he will make a complete end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.

Who by the mouth of your servant David have said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?

Because, when they knew God, they did not glorify him as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to children, My son, do not despise the discipline of the Lord, nor faint when you are rebuked by him:

As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
