When I would have healed Israel, then the iniquity of Ephraim was uncovered, and the wickedness of Samaria: for they commit falsehood; and the thief comes in, and the troop of robbers plunders outside.

Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are at the head of the fat valleys of those who are overcome with wine!

In your filthiness is lewdness: because I have cleansed you, and you were not cleansed, you shall not be cleansed from your filthiness any more, till I have caused my fury to rest upon you.

The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Beth-aven: for the people thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof that rejoiced over it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it.

Ephraim surrounds me with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit: but Judah yet rules with God, and is faithful with the saints.

How shall I give you up, Ephraim? how shall I deliver you, Israel? how shall I make you like Admah? how shall I treat you like Zeboim? my heart is overturned within me, my repentings are kindled together.

Ephraim feeds on wind, and follows after the east wind: he daily increases lies and desolation; and they make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.

The LORD has also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.

Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone.

By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they burst out, and bloodshed follows bloodshed.

Hear ye this, O priests; and listen, you house of Israel; and give ear, O house of the king; for judgment is directed to you, because you have been a snare on Mizpah, and a net spread upon Tabor.

O Ephraim, what shall I do to you? O Judah, what shall I do to you? for your goodness is like a morning cloud, and like the early dew it goes away.

Woe to them! for they have fled from me: destruction to them! because they have transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me.

Your calf, O Samaria, has cast you off; my anger is kindled against them: how long will it be before they attain to innocence?

For they have gone up to Assyria, a wild donkey alone by himself: Ephraim has hired lovers.

For they know not to do right, says the LORD, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.

Announce in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold the great tumults in the midst thereof, and the oppressed in the midst thereof.

Those who swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Your god, O Dan, lives; and, The way of Beer-sheba lives; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.

For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and you walk in their counsels; that I should make you a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof a hissing: therefore you shall bear the reproach of my people.

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets, and stone those who are sent to you, how often would I have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not!

Saying, If you had known, even you, at least in this your day, the things which belong to your peace! But now they are hid from your eyes.
