My people ask counsel at their tree trunks, and their staff speaks to them: for the spirit of whoredoms has caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from being under their God’s care.
For so it was, that the children of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, which had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,
But have walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and have made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a whoring, like the whoredoms of the house of Ahab, and also have slain your brothers of your father’s house, which were better than yourself:
Saying to a tree trunk, You are my father; and to a stone, You have brought me forth: for they have turned their back to me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.
And that which comes into your mind shall not happen at all, that you say, We will be like the heathen, like the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.
For the king of Babylon stood at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use divination: he made his arrows bright, he consulted with images, he looked in the liver.
Asshur shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses: neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, You are our gods: for in you the fatherless finds mercy.
And they shall no longer offer their sacrifices to devils, after whom they have gone a whoring. This shall be a statute for ever to them throughout their generations.
Then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and will cut him off, and all that go a whoring after him, to commit whoredom with Molech, from among their people.
If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood lies, saying, I will prophesy to you of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.
Woe to him who says to wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is covered over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.
And it shall be to you for a fringe, that you may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that you do not seek after your own heart and your own eyes, which you use after their inclination to go a whoring:
And the LORD said to Moses, Behold, you shall sleep with your fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, to which they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them.
