That the triumph of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?

Be careful, do not regard iniquity: for this have you chosen rather than to bear affliction.

The princes of the people are gathered together, even the people of the God of Abraham: for the shields of the earth belong to God: he is greatly exalted.

For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

My heart panted, fearfulness terrified me: the night of my pleasure has he turned into fear for me.

But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods, nor worship the golden image which you have set up.

Yet has he not root in himself, but endures for a while: for when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, by and by he is offended.

But Abraham said, Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and you are tormented.

I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and have come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send you into Egypt.

And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation works patience;

Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is lacking in the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church:

Do not be therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be a sharer of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after you were enlightened, you endured a great struggle of afflictions;

They were stoned, they were sawn apart, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered around in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;

There remains therefore a rest to the people of God.

For the anger of man does not work the righteousness of God.

You have lived in pleasure on the earth, and in luxury; you have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

Who in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

As much as she has glorified herself, and lived in indulgence, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she says in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
