And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, they stood the priests in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise the LORD, according to the ordinance of David king of Israel.

Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem. So it ceased until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.

Whoever is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the loving kindness of the LORD.

And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hands.

Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know them? for the ways of the LORD are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein.

Now therefore thus says the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.

Since those days, when one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were but ten: when one came to the wine vat to draw out fifty vessels out of the winepress, there were but twenty.

Consider now from this day and onward, from the twenty fourth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD’S temple was laid, consider it.

For before these days there was no wage for man, nor any wage for beast; neither was there any peace to him who went out or came in because of the affliction: for I set all men every one against his neighbor.

But now I will not be to the remainder of this people as in the former days, says the LORD of hosts.

What fruit did you have then in those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged.
