Woe to him who says to wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is covered over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.

They have ears, but they do not hear; neither is there any breath in their mouths.

Let all those who serve sculptured images be put to shame, that boast themselves of idols: worship him, all you gods.

They are dead, they shall not live; they are deceased, they shall not rise: therefore have you visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish.

The workman melts a sculptured image, and the goldsmith spreads it over with gold, and casts silver chains.

Who has declared from the beginning, that we may know? and beforehand, that we may say, He is righteous? yea, there is none that shows us, yea, there is none that declares, yea, there is none that hears your words.

And the rest of it he makes into a god, even his sculptured image: he bows down to it, and worships it, and prays to it, and says, Deliver me; for you are my god.

They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance, and hire a goldsmith; and he makes it a god: they fall down, yea, they worship.

Among the smooth stones of the stream is your portion; they, they are your lot: even to them have you poured a drink offering, you have offered a food offering. Should I receive comfort in these things?

Every man is stupid in his knowledge: every metal worker is put to shame by the sculptured image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

For the customs of the people are vain: for one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.

They decorate it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, so that it does not move.

Silver spread into plates is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the craftsman, and of the hands of the goldsmith: blue and purple is their clothing: they are all the work of skilful men.

Saying to a tree trunk, You are my father; and to a stone, You have brought me forth: for they have turned their back to me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.

But where are your gods that you have made for yourselves? let them arise, if they can save you in the time of your trouble: for according to the number of your cities are your gods, O Judah.

Therefore, behold, the days are coming that I will execute judgment upon the sculptured images of Babylon: and her whole land shall be astonished, and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.

Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.

But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods, nor worship the golden image which you have set up.

Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak anything improper against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God who can deliver in this way.

Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and all kinds of music, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshiped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

But have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you, and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine in them; and you have praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand your breath is, and whose are all your ways, have you not glorified:

They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

Then the sailors were afraid, and cried out every man to his god, and threw out the goods that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it from them. But Jonah had gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay down, and was fast asleep.

Seeing then that we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like gold, or silver, or stone, sculptured by art and man’s devising.

And the woman was clothed in purple and scarlet color, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
