Genesis 47:4

They said moreover to Pharaoh, To sojourn in the land are we come; for your servants have no pasture for their flocks; for the famine is severe in the land of Canaan: now therefore, we pray you, let your servants dwell in the land of Goshen.

For thus says the Lord GOD, My people went down in times past into Egypt to sojourn there; and the Assyrian oppressed them without cause.

Now there came a famine over all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and great affliction: and our fathers found no sustenance.

And God spoke in this way, That his descendents would dwell for a time in a foreign land; and that they would bring them into bondage, and treat them badly four hundred years.

And you shall speak and say before the LORD your God, A Syrian ready to perish was my father, and he went down into Egypt, and sojourned there with a few, and became there a nation, great, mighty, and populous:
