Only the land of the priests he did not buy; for the priests had a portion assigned them by Pharaoh, and did eat their portion which Pharaoh gave them: therefore they did not sell their lands.

Also we inform you, that concerning any of the priests and Levites, singers, gatekeepers, temple servants, or ministers of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose toll, tribute, or custom, upon them.

And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them: for the Levites and the singers, that did the work, had fled every one to his field.

Nor a pouch for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staffs: for the workman is worthy of his food.

Do you not know that those who minister around holy things live from the things of the temple? And those who serve at the altar have a share of the altar?

Let him who is taught in the word contribute to him who teaches in all good things.

Be careful that you do not forsake the Levite as long as you live upon the earth.

For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and teaching.
