And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmaelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing spices and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.

So he fled with all that he had; and he rose up, and passed over the river, and set his face toward the mount Gilead.

And he took his kinfolk with him, and pursued after him seven days’ journey; and they overtook him in the mount Gilead.

And they took him, and threw him into a pit: and the pit was empty; there was no water in it.

Then there passed by Midianite merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt.

And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the hands of the Ishmaelites, which had brought him down there.

And their father Israel said to them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down to the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds:

The messengers went out, being hastened by the king’s commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city Shushan was perplexed.

Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and do not call upon the LORD.

The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;

Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eats, and wipes her mouth, and says, I have done no wickedness.

I have come into my garden, my sister, my spouse: I have gathered my myrrh with my spice; I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey; I have drunk my wine with my milk: eat, O friends; drink, yea, drink abundantly, O beloved.

For thus says the LORD to the king’s house of Judah; You are Gilead to me, and the head of Lebanon: yet surely I will make you a wilderness, and cities which are not inhabited.

Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt: in vain shall you use many medicines; for you shall not be cured.

Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?

And the east side you shall measure from Hauran, and from Damascus, and from Gilead, and from the land of Israel by the Jordan, from the border to the east sea. And this is the east side.

Who lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs from the flock, and the calves from the midst of the stall;

Who drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the best ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

And Gilead, and the border of the Geshurites and Maachathites, and all mount Hermon, and all Bashan to Salcah;
