And so commanded he the second, and the third, and all that followed the herds, saying, In this manner shall you speak to Esau, when you find him.

So went the present over before him: and he lodged that night in the company.

And their father Israel said to them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down to the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds:

And his servants said to him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, I pray you, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: perhaps he will save your life.

A wrathful man stirs up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeases strife.

The anger of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.

A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.

A gift in secret pacifies anger: and a reward in the bosom strong wrath.

He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though you give many gifts.

Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, so that we do not perish?

In meekness instructing those who place themselves in opposition; if God will perhaps give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

Therefore you shall make images of your tumors, and images of your mice that mar the land; and you shall give glory to the God of Israel: perhaps he will lighten his hand off from you, and off from your gods, and off from your land.
