And to Adam he said, Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it: cursed is the ground for your sake; in sorrow shall you eat of it all the days of your life;

And he said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you that you should not eat?

Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to you; and you shall eat the herb of the field;

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit of it, and did eat, and gave also to her husband with her; and he did eat.

And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD has cursed.

And the LORD smelled a sweet smell; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again strike any more every thing living, as I have done.

Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.

How often is the candle of the wicked put out! and how often does their destruction come upon them! God apportions sorrows in his anger.

It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he gives his beloved sleep.

Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done, and on the labor that I had labored to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.

Therefore I hated life; because the work that is done under the sun is distressful to me: for all is vanity and vexation of spirit.

All his days also he eats in darkness, and he has much sorrow and wrath with his sickness.

And he said to him, Friend, how did you come in here not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.

Then shall he answer them, saying, Truly I say to you, To the extent that you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.

And he said to him, Out of your own mouth will I judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I was a severe man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow:

These things I have spoken to you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Now we know that whatever things the law says, it says to those who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

But that which bears thorns and briers is rejected, and is near to cursing; whose end is to be burned.
