However in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to test him, that he might know all that was in his heart.
Then said the LORD to Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain amount every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or not.
There has no temptation overtaken you but such as is common to mankind: but God is faithful, who will not permit you to be tempted more than you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.

Who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know, that he might humble you, and that he might prove you, to do you good at your latter end;

That the testing of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perishes, though it is tried with fire, may result in praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
