And they said, Come now, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach to heaven; and let us make us a name, so that we will not be scattered abroad on the face of the whole earth.

Come now, let us go down, and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.

They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they talk of laying snares secretly; they say, Who shall see them?

And they made their lives bitter with hard service, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigor.

And when she could no longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the reeds by the river’s edge.

If they say, Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood, let us wait secretly for the innocent without cause:

I said in my heart, Come now, I will prove you with cheerfulness, therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this also is vanity.

And now consider; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down:

A people that provoke me to anger continually to my face; that sacrifice in gardens, and burn incense upon altars of brick;

The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with cut stones: the sycamores are cut down, but we will replace them with cedars.

Draw waters for the siege, fortify your strongholds: go into clay, and tread the mortar, make strong the brick kiln.

And let us consider one another to provoke to love and to good works:

But encourage one another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

Come on now, you who say, Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

Go on now, you rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
