Therefore the Lord said, Seeing that this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honor me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

I will declare your righteousness, and your works ; for they shall not profit you.

And it shall come to pass, if they say to you, Where shall we go away to? then you shall tell them, Thus says the LORD; Those that are for death, to death; and those that are for the sword, to the sword; and those that are for the famine, to the famine; and those that are for the captivity, to the captivity.

But have walked according to the imagination of their own heart, and after Baalim, which their fathers taught them:

Or if the raw flesh turns again, and be changed to white, he shall come to the priest;

And do not honor his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have you made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.

And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, and said to him, You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are who believe; and they are all zealous for the law:

I am truly a man who am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as you all are this day.

Which knew me from the beginning, if they would testify, that according to the strictest sect of our religion I lived as a Pharisee.

I truly thought to myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth.

Beware so that no one will spoil you through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the principles of the world, and not according to Christ.

Whom having not seen, you love; in whom, though now you do not see him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
