And now for a little while grace has been shown from the LORD our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a tent peg in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our slavery.

It may be the LORD your God will hear all the words of Rab-shakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to reproach the living God; and will reprove the words which the LORD your God has heard: therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that are left.

For we were slaves; yet our God has not forsaken us in our slavery, but has extended mercy to us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, and to repair the desolations thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.

O Lord, I plead with you, let now your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants, who delight to fear your name: and prosper, I pray you, your servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king’s cupbearer.

Nevertheless for your great mercies’ sake you did not completely consume them, nor forsake them; for you are a gracious and merciful God.

To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.

Consider and hear me, O LORD my God: lighten my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death;

So that my enemy does not say, I have prevailed against him; and those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved.

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you will revive me: you shall stretch out your hand against the anger of my enemies, and your right hand shall save me.

They looked to him, and were enlightened: and their faces were not ashamed.

Will you not revive us again: that your people may rejoice in you?

The poor and the deceitful man meet together: the LORD enlightens both their eyes.

The words of the wise are like goads, and as nails fastened by the leaders of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.

Unless the LORD of hosts had left to us a very small remnant, we would have been as Sodom, and we would have been like Gomorrah.

And it shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give you rest from your sorrow, and from your fear, and from the hard service with which you were made to serve,

Even to them will I give in my house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.

For thus says the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also who is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a linden tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them when they drop their leaves: so the holy people shall be the substance thereof.

And said to Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we plead with you, our supplication be accepted before you, and pray for us unto the LORD your God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes do behold us:)

So that none of the remnant of Judah, who are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall escape or remain, that they should return into the land of Judah, to which they have a desire to return to dwell there: for none shall return but those who shall escape.

Yet behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth to you, and you shall see their way and their doings: and you shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it.

After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.

O LORD, I have heard your speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive your work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.

I will also leave in the midst of you an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD.

Out of him came forth the cornerstone, out of him the nail, out of him the battle bow, out of him every oppressor together.

For the seed shall be prosperous; the vine shall give her fruit, and the ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these things.

Thus says the LORD of hosts; If it be marvelous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvelous in my eyes? says the LORD of hosts.

Isaiah also cries out concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:

He who overcomes will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go out no more: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

But Jonathan did not hear when his father charged the people with the oath: wherefore he put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand, and dipped it in a honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes were brightened.

Then said Jonathan, My father has troubled the land: see, I pray you, how my eyes have been brightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.
